Villajoyosa, La Villa Joiosa, literally translates as 'happy city', is the capital of the streek La Marina Baixa on the Costa Blanca and is located south of the neighboring Benidorm en Altea, north 30km from the city Alicante with zijn international airport.
The charming town is known for its...colored fishermen's houses, ideal for people looking for authentic Spain.
There is a covered market placel (el mercat) where you can buy fresh fish, meat and vegetables and a beautiful old part (casco antiguo) with a beautiful village square and the l'Assumpció church that exudes the Catalan Gothic style. There is one every Thursday market in Villajoyosa, the ideal time to stroll around and mingle with the locals.
Villajoyosa is of course one fishing village. At 5 o'clock in the evening the fishing boats come in and you can enjoy a delicious fresh catch in the many local restaurants.
In the centre you can walk around for hours, but you can also go south of Villajoyosa nice walk to Bol Nou and the lookout towers (Torre del Xarco, La Malladeta), north you have a beautiful walk towards La Cala de Finestrat (Torre d'Aguiló).
